About

Opened on 25 October 2003, the new Estádio da Luz took over from SL Benfica's former ground. Designed by HOK for Euro 2004, it hosted the tournament's final in its very first season. Nicknamed "A Catedral", it stages Benfica's home matches in front of some 65,000 spectators.

The guided stadium tour takes in the away dressing room, the press room, the tunnel leading out to the pitch, the pitchside area, the dugouts and the presidential box. The Benfica – Cosme Damião museum can be visited at your own pace and brings together the club's trophies, defining moments and greatest figures. Allow about an hour for the stadium and at least an hour and a half for the museum.

The whole site is open every day, from 10am to 7pm in summer and from 10am to 6pm for the rest of the year. The stadium tour departs every hour from 10am. The museum closes on matchdays, and the entire site closes on 25 December and 1 January.

Did you know?

A true SL Benfica legend, Portuguese striker Nuno Gomes will forever be part of the Estádio da Luz story. In a friendly against Nacional Montevideo, won 2-1, the man capped 79 times by Portugal became the ground's first ever scorer, as early as the 7th minute. Proof that it takes only a few moments to write your name into history.
