About

The Maracanã, officially named Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, is one of the most famous stadiums in the world. Opened on 16 June 1950, it has hosted matches at the 1950 and 2014 World Cups, including the 2014 final, as well as the 2016 Olympic Games. Flamengo and Fluminense both play their home games here.

The Maracanã tour lasts around 50 minutes and takes you into the dressing rooms, the press room, the mixed zone, the players' tunnel and right down to the edge of the pitch. It runs every day from 9am to 4.30pm, with the last departure at 4pm. The route may vary depending on the date you choose.

Did you know?

With 199,854 spectators, the Maracanã may hold the all-time attendance record for a football match. For the title decider at the 1950 World Cup (Brazil's defeat to Uruguay), the Rio ground packed in almost 200,000 people, the equivalent of two Stades de France plus a Geoffroy-Guichard. Just imagine the atmosphere.
