About

The Stade Vélodrome opened its doors in June 1937, a few weeks before the start of the 1938 World Cup hosted by France. Olympique de Marseille, who had just won their first professional French league title, left the Stade de l'Huveaune, their home since 1902, to settle permanently in this new ground. It has been expanded and renovated several times in order to host major international competitions. Its most recent transformation, completed in 2014 ahead of Euro 2016, gave it a roof covering every stand.

The self-guided OM Stadium Tour gives access to the dressing rooms, the press conference room, the edge of the pitch and the trophy room. It runs during the school holidays, from Monday to Sunday, as well as on certain weekends, the day before or the day after a match, depending on the fixture list. A "Matchday" option is also available on the morning of match days.

Did you know?

Beyond Olympique de Marseille's fixtures, the Stade Vélodrome regularly staged cycling races in its early years: the Tour de France settled about ten finishes there, up to 1967. The track was removed in 1985, but the name stayed, inherited from those cycling years and today paired with the telecommunications company Orange. The Tour actually came back in 2017, for a time trial that started and finished inside the stadium itself. A first in a sports venue since 1978.

Franchement le stade Velodrome est un endroit que j'ai rêvé d'y aller et je suis parti 1 fois dans ma vie y'a beaucoup d'escaliers mais ça fait faire du sport c'est pas grave donc je donne la note de 10/10 voilà. Houria Morini

Je suis venu visiter le Vel fin juin 2019 et j'étais seul avec l'hôtesse et le gars de la sécurité. Très beau moment : visite des vestiaires, celui de l'OM, mais surtout celui de Sopra aussi lors de ses gros concerts mémorables. Mon seul regret : pas pu aller marcher sur la pelouse alors en travaux.
