About

In the heart of La Boca, La Bombonera has been Boca Juniors' home since 25 May 1940. It opened with a 2-0 win over San Lorenzo and was designed by architect Viktor Sulčič, with a vertical structure and a distinctive horseshoe shape. That layout brings the stands right up against the pitch. A historical frieze inside the ground recalls Diego Maradona's first steps in the blue and gold shirt in 1981.

The Museo de la Pasión Boquense tells the story of Boca Juniors and can be visited at your own pace. Two options also give access to the stadium itself: a ten-minute express guided visit to a panoramic viewpoint in the southern standing end, and a Stadium Tour of about fifty minutes taking in the stands, the boxes, the away dressing room and the edge of the pitch.

The museum is open every day from 10am to 6pm.

Did you know?

La Bombonera is the stadium where Maradona, El Pibe de Oro (the Golden Boy), hung up his boots for good, at a magnificent testimonial match in 2001. Boca Juniors is the club that saw the legend of Argentine football both rise and bow out. It was in Boca's blue and gold that Maradona won his first Argentine league title in 1981, and it was there that he said farewell to professional football 16 years later, on 25 October 1997, on the pitch of... River Plate. A symbol in itself.
