About

Opened on 28 April 1877 as an athletics ground, Stamford Bridge only became Chelsea's home in 1905. After Fulham turned down the chance to move in, Chelsea FC were founded in March 1905 and played their first matches there. The London club have never left since.

The guided tour lasts an hour and takes in the dressing rooms, the press room, the players' tunnel and the pitchside. Every visitor receives a souvenir lanyard and can be photographed with the Blues' trophies. Entry to the Chelsea FC Museum is included and can be done before or after seeing the stadium.

Tours run every day from 10am to 4pm, and from 9.20am in July and August. Only certain home match days are an exception.

Did you know?

Stamford Bridge originally held far more spectators than it does today. Designed for up to 100,000 people, most of them standing, it recorded its biggest crowd in October 1935, when almost 83,000 fans came in for a league match against neighbours Arsenal. As the ground had to be modernised and made more comfortable, it only took on its present shape in 2001, after being rebuilt one stand at a time. Could an expansion be next?
